Welcome from AV SUP Club to what we hope will be a fun event with some keen competition for medals during this year’s River Hamble Games. Club members and trainers will be available on the day for chats and advice about the fastest growing water sport.
Racing will take place on the Hamble River in two formats - Main Long Distance Medal Race (5 miles) and shorter Novice Race (3 miles). Race/Safety briefs for both events will commence at 10.00 at the RedPaddle Co gazebo. Launching will be from the foreshore between the Blue Star Cafe and RedPaddle Co gazebo.
Main Long Distance Medal Race (5 Miles)
This will be a long distance race, consisting of a 5 mile race lasting 1 - 1.5 hours. The event will start at approximately 11:00am (with registration having taken place at 10.00 and briefings at 10:30).
All entries should be made ahead of the event via the online registration form and competitors are required to have their own boards to participate. There will be two groups, depending on the type of board you have; "Fun" boards (all-round boards up to and including 12') and "Race/Touring" boards (12'6" to 14').
The Main Distance Medal Race will have medals awarded for each of the two board types (fun and race/touring) in male and female categories across the following age groups (age to be on the day of the event - 18th June 2016):
- Junior (12-16 years)
- Senior (17-39 years)
- Veteran (40 years and over)
Shorter Novice Race (3 Miles)
The Novice Race is hosted as a "give it a go" event and all winners receive a free SUP lesson rather than a medal. All entries should be made ahead of the event via the online registration form and competitors are required to have their own boards to participate. Any board type and length can be entered.
Starting around the same time as the Main Medal Race, the Novice competitors will paddle out and back along the same route though of a shorter distance and with the same male and female categories as the Main Race. Each category winner will receive a free BSUPA lesson courtesy of AV SUP School (www.avsupclub.co.uk).
